Parish Groups

Grapevine magazine is a quarterly parish publication. The Grapevine team was formed in the early 1990’s to produce a parish magazine. The work involves collecting articles and photographs from parishioners, contacting advertisers, publishing a 24 page magazine every three months, proof reading, duplicating and collating the magazine.

Music Group was formed in the late 1970’s

  • to work under the guidance of the parish priest;
  • to plan, play, sing and lead the music for Sunday Mass;
  • to learn new hymns and introduce them to the parish;
  • to make good use of the new hymn books;
  • to enhance the liturgy through appropriate choices; and
    • to provide music for other occasions, e.g. First Holy Communion, Ecumenical services etc.

The Group meets in the homes of parishioners to prepare music for the oncoming season of the Church.

First Holy Communion Leaders meet approximately five weeks prior to First Holy Communion Day to help children and parents to prepare for the Sacrament of the Eucharist. The Group was formed in 2008.

Fundraising Group The aims of the Group are:

  • to raise funds for St Bernadette’s Church and its community;
  • to encourage other members of the Church community to raise funds both for the Church and other good causes, both locally, nationally and internationally; and
  • to encourage and enrich the social life of the Parish.

The group is involved in organising car boot sales, bingos, Christmas draw, St Bernadette’s ‘200’ club, bonus no. games and repository, over 60’s Christmas party and coffee mornings on a regular basis and occasional other events.

Ladies’ Circle first met as Catholic Women’s League over 20 years ago and the meetings were always well attended. However, the need to attend meetings at branch level became an issue and consequently continued as a parish group.

The aims of the Group are

  • to provide an opportunity for all ladies to meet on a social basis;
  • to meet for prayerful reflection;
  • to support parish celebrations;
  • to have link parishioners to visit sick members of the parish when necessary; and
  • to organise fund raising to support various charities; and to have social outings.

CAFOD Group organise the usual Family Fast Day collections in the Parish, the group also responds to crisis appeals, arranges quiz nights and raffles.  Group members occasionally make appeals from the Altar and on Good Friday morning lead the Parish in a CAFOD "Way of the Cross."
