St Bernadette’s Children’s
Liturgy Group
‘Come and join the
Circle’
The Children’s Liturgy Group at St.
Bernadette’s has a joint responsibility with the Parish Priest for the
presentation of ‘The Word of God’ to the children.
We meet
nearly every Sunday during the 9.30am Mass. The group is led by two adults - a leader and a helper.
We gather with the
Parish Family for the beginning of Mass and then process as a group to the Lady
Room.
During our time together we
proclaim the Gospel, reflect on
Jesus’ message and pray in words and
song.
We rejoin Mass at the offertory by
leading the procession.
We try
to make God’s Word accessible to all children. We allow the children to express
their understanding of God’s word and what it means for them. We use readings,
prayers, songs and actions to support our work. We also make use of ‘The
Wednesday Word’ which the Primary children bring home from school each week.
Children’s
Liturgy at St Bernadette’s is open to all children of primary or nursery school
age and younger. We do ask that very young children (3 and under) have an adult
with them so that they are able to join in our celebration to the full.
The
Lady Room is fitted with a speaker system and soundproofing. If your child is
unsettled you can take part in the remainder of the Mass without the worry of
disturbing the Congregation.
The year culminates with our Christmas
celebration. We present a play during which the Christmas Story is recalled.
Many parishioners see this as the beginning of their Christmas.
The preparation for this involves rehearsals for several consecutive
Saturdays prior to the event, but the result is always worth the effort
involved.
Leaders and
helpers...
Leading
Children’s Liturgy is a joy and an enormous privilege. We are really blessed at
St Bernadette’s to have so many children regularly attending Children’s Liturgy
at 9.30am Mass each week.
Currently
all leaders and helpers taking Children’s Liturgy are CRB cleared.
In
these times of dwindling congregations we see Children’s Liturgy as making a
vital contribution to the future; we cannot sustain it without continued
support.
New volunteer
Leaders and Helpers are always welcome.
In
order to comply with Government guidance on the ratio of adults to children we urgently need more adult leaders and
helpers to support children attending Liturgy. This would require you to
have an appropriate CRB check and to agree to be on the rota – the more we have
the fewer Sundays you will be needed.
Without this help
we may have to limit the number of children able to attend.
Please
give your details to one of the current leaders if you are willing to help.
Thank
you for your continued support.
God
Bless.
MaryB, Liz, Marianne, Julie, Claire, Geraldine and Carole.
